Whitmer Thomas’s second HBO special drops tomorrow. Terminal Crew of Dudes hits HBO Friday, August 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and it will stream on Max.
Clay Tatum and Thomas directed it. Variety calls it an hour. Thomas wrote it, performed it, and wrote the music. Moses Goldfarb is the DP. Executive producers: Thomas, Tatum, Tim Robinson, Matthew Vaughan, Josh Kessler, Olivia Gerke, and Ramy Katrib.
HBO’s line: in his second stand-up special, the Gulf Shores, Alabama comic “digs into his small-town Alabama upbringing… and his ongoing quest to be cool.” He is joined onstage by his bandmates and closest friends — Jeremy Ritchie, Clay Tatum, Budd Diaz, and his brother Johnny McCann. Original songs, photos, and home videos. The stories, per the press notes, run from pranks and skateboarding to ruining a Benihana birthday party.
Thomas, in a statement: “Thank you to the folks at HBO for giving me another special and all of my friends for being a part of it. I tried very hard making this thing. I hope you like it. If you don’t like it, please keep it to yourself.”

The last one was The Golden One
His first HBO hour, The Golden One, premiered February 22, 2020. Bo Burnham and A24 produced it. Tatum co-directed that one too. He taped it at the Flora-Bama Lounge, the Gulf Coast room where his late mother Jenny Henderson and her twin sister Jude played as the new-wave duo Syn Twister. Stand-up, original songs, documentary footage. An accompanying album, Songs from the Golden One, came out on Hardly Art.
Since then he has acted in Friendship and Weapons, and put out the 2022 album The Older I Get The Funnier I Was. A companion album to this special, also titled Terminal Crew of Dudes, is due the same day on Fire Talk Records.
